E-Hadist: The electronic hookah explained simply

E-Hadist guide: function, structure and differences to the classic shisha. Plus buying tips for e-shishas and shisha pens for beginners in Switzerland.

E-hadist is a colloquial term for an electronic shisha – that is, a battery-powered device that produces flavoured vapour without the use of charcoal, tobacco or an open flame. The term emerged alongside terms such as e-shisha or shisha pen and usually refers to compact, pen-shaped vaporisers containing pre-filled e-liquid. For you as a beginner, it’s important to note that the function, ingredients and maintenance differ significantly from the traditional water pipe. In this guide, you’ll learn how an e-hadist is technically constructed, what it’s suitable for and what you should look out for when buying one in Switzerland.

An e-hadist is not a separate product category, but a synonym for an electronic shisha. Technically speaking, it is a small vaporiser consisting of three main parts: a battery, a heating coil with a cotton wick, and a tank or pod containing flavoured e-liquid. As soon as you draw on the mouthpiece, an air sensor activates the heating coil, the e-liquid vaporises, and you inhale an aromatic vapour.

Unlike a traditional shisha, therefore, nothing is burned. There is no tar, no carbon monoxide from charcoal and no smoke in the strict sense of the word. Instead, the principle is similar to that of a compact e-cigarette. This is why terms such as e-hadist, e-shisha, shisha pen or mini electric shisha are often used interchangeably. The main differences lie in shape and size: shisha pens are slim and pen-shaped, whilst other e-shishas come as disposable devices or rechargeable pod systems.

Operation is designed for simplicity. Most devices do not have an on/off button: you draw on the mouthpiece, the electronics detect the airflow and heat the coil to around 180 to 250 °C. After a few seconds, a dense, flavoured vapour is produced.

Disposable or rechargeable?

Disposable devices have a built-in battery, coil and e-liquid. Depending on the model, they deliver 500 to 800 puffs and are disposed of properly once used up. Rechargeable versions use replaceable pods and a USB-C port – they last longer and are cheaper in the long run.

With or without nicotine?

Electric mini shishas are available in nicotine-free versions (pure flavour) and with nicotine salt ranging from 10 to 20 mg/ml. Products containing nicotine are available in Switzerland exclusively to adults aged 18 and over. Nicotine-free e-shishas are gentler on the throat and are suitable for users who are simply looking for the flavour.

Before you make a purchase, it’s worth doing a structured comparison. The following points will help you find a suitable model and avoid common mistakes:

  • Battery capacity and number of puffs: Disposable e-shisha models usually have a capacity of 400–650 mAh and 2 ml of e-liquid. Make sure the stated number of puffs is realistic – deep puffs consume more than short ones.
  • Nicotine content: 0 mg/ml for pure enjoyment, 10 mg/ml for a mild throat hit, 20 mg/ml (the maximum permitted in Switzerland) for those switching from cigarettes.
  • Flavour profile: Fruity, minty, cola, melon, grape – choose flavours that you also like in traditional shisha tobacco to avoid disappointment.
  • Build quality and leak-proofing: Cheap, no-name devices often leak e-liquid into the mouthpiece. Opt for certified brands with a declaration compliant with Swiss regulations.
  • Disposal: Disposable e-shishas contain lithium batteries and should be disposed of as electronic waste, not in household rubbish.

In particular, avoid a common beginner’s mistake: taking too long, too deep a drag straight after unpacking. This can overheat the cotton and produce a harsh, burnt taste (‘dry hit’). Two to three shorter initial drags activate the coil more gently.

Is an e-hadist the same as an e-cigarette?

Technically, yes – both vaporise e-liquid via a coil. The difference lies in the marketing: e-hadists and shisha pens emphasise the shisha experience with fruity flavours and dense vapour, whilst e-cigarettes are often positioned as more compact and tobacco-oriented.

How long does a disposable e-hadith last?

That depends on the capacity and how you use it. A model with 2 ml of e-liquid and a 500 mAh battery usually lasts for 400 to 600 puffs – so one to three days, depending on usage. Once the flavour fades or very little vapour is produced, the device is empty.

Can I use an electronic hookah anywhere in Switzerland?

No. In public buildings, on public transport, in restaurants and in many workplaces, the same smoking and vaping ban applies as for cigarettes. Also observe house rules and always ask indoors.

At what age can I buy an e-shisha?

The sale of nicotine-containing products is permitted in Switzerland from the age of 18. Reputable shops carry out age verification. In practice, nicotine-free devices are also not sold to minors.

An e-hadist is a compact, charcoal-free alternative to the traditional hookah and is aimed at adults who want to enjoy flavoured vapour on the go without any hassle. What matters is solid build quality, transparent e-liquid information and a responsible approach to nicotine. In our range of disposable e-cigarettes, you’ll find various e-shisha models – take your time to compare flavours, battery life and nicotine strengths, and try them out to find your favourite.
